Definition

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disorder characterized by plaques or patches of itchy, scaly and sometimes inflamed skin that most commonly appear on the knees, elbows, hands, feet, scalp or back.

Effects
Itchiness and pain are direct effects; however, many patients also contend with the frustration of treatments that vary in ease and effectiveness and emotional effects resulting from self-consciousness.
Facts
Psoriasis affects more than 10 million people in the seven major pharmaceutical markets.  The market for psoriasis therapies is expected to exceed $3.9 billion by 2011 (Source: Decision Resources).
DARA's Approach
Dara Biosciences is pursuing multiple therapeutic approaches for the treatment of psoriasis, with efforts focused on the development of topically-delivered therapies.
